What is Mediation?

Community Mediation is a free service to help people with neighbour disputes and people suffering from anti-social behaviour.

Mediation is a process through which parties in dispute have the opportunity to understand one another’s point of view and negotiate an agreement which is arrived at by the parties themselves rather than one which is imposed. The process is facilitated by trained mediators who ensure that both sides have equal say and any agreements reached are based on what both sides think is fair.
Issues which are commonly dealt with through mediation are...
  • Noise, dogs barking, music, parties, doors slamming, DIY, guns, shouting, children's play, televisions
  • Environmental issues, cat mess, rubbish, rats, general untidiness
  • Abuse and criminal damage, swearing, threats, damage to property
  • Gardens, trees, hedges, weeds
  • Rights of way, pedestrians, vehicular access, obstructions to the right of way, gates, access, shared drives
  • Boundary disputes
  • Access for property maintenance
  • Fears of various kinds, CCTV cameras, intrusion, drug and alcohol abuse, prostitution, child neglect
Community Mediation is funded by Maidstone Borough Council, Golding Homes, Tonbridge & Malling Council and Kent Police.
